Program Description:

NURS 414C BUS-Embedded Clinical Experience

Course Information:

The NURS 414C BUS-Embedded Clinical Experience offers senior nursing students an extraordinary opportunity to complete their 72-hour Population and Global Health Nursing clinical rotation through immersive learning experiences in Baltimore City, Maryland and Washington, DC. In partnership with the Baltimore Urban Study Center, students will engage directly with diverse communities, innovative nonprofit organizations, public health initiatives, and healthcare leaders serving the city’s multilingual and multicultural populations. Participants will receive mentorship from nurses, researchers, and practitioners connected with Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and Baltimore Urban Study Center while gaining hands-on experience alongside organizations such as Esperanza Center, Health Care for the Homeless, and Helping Up Mission. Students will have meaningful opportunities to interact with Spanish-speaking, Arabic-speaking, refugee, immigrant, and historically marginalized communities while exploring the complex social and historical factors that shape health outcomes today. Through pastoral mentorship, clinical engagement, cross-cultural relationships, reflective practice, and community-based learning, students will deepen their understanding of holistic reconciliation, public health advocacy, and Christ-like servant leadership while developing the cultural humility and professional competencies necessary to become compassionate and effective public health nurses in an increasingly diverse world.
